The Community of Unalaska/Dutch Harbor

SERVICES TO NON-PROFITS AND ARTS ORGANIZATIONS

Over the years, Tom Grant has performed many times for various non-profits, charitable groups and arts organizations. These performances are often linked to clinics in which he and his band conduct workshops for students and other members of the target community who are interested in learning about jazz music and related topics.

For a fee that is generally comparable to his normal concert fee, Tom and cohorts will travel to a community and perform a concert of his music, along with songs from the Great American Songbook and selections of pop and jazz taken from various eras of music history. During their stay in the community, the Tom Grant band will then be available for teaching sessions with student bands, singers, or just interested individuals who want to learn what it takes to play jazz music in the modern music business milieu. This could include performing with student groups, working with kids in a hands-on instrumental music setting, song writing clinics, instruction on improvisation and (light) music theory, and general concepts about making your way in the business of music.

Tom loves to work with singing groups and individuals who are interested in jazz vocalization. He has also done a number of master classes in jazz improvisation for piano stores in the Northwest. Tom has considerable teaching experience as a public school teacher, with a Masters in Education from the University of Oregon where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1970.
